SAFARICOM
has been raking in an average Sh384 million every day for the last six
months, its half year results showed yesterday. The country’s largest
operator reported revenues rose 17 per cent to stand at Sh69.2 billion
up from Sh59.1 billion the previous half.
Six months have 180 days translating into revenues of 384.4 million on a daily basis this half year driven largely by an appetite by young people to be on their phones throughout. In the six months, Kenyans, and mostly youths, sent SMS worth over Sh6.35 billion (a growth of 48.7%) and used another Sh4.25 billion (a 43.1% jump) on data services confirming recent studies that placed the country as one the largest user of social sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp in Africa
