Court Orders Kenneth Marende To Pay a RONGAI woman Sh457, 000 a month For Child Support

A woman in Rongai has demanded a monthly upkeep of Sh457, 000 for Kenneth Marende’s illegitimate daughter.
The news spread like wildfire when it was announced that Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende has been sued by the mother of a three-year old daughter for upkeep. When giving the order, Principal Magistrate Faith Karimi Munyi pointed out that Marende must pay Sh103, 000 as the child’s school fees.
Besides that, the former National Assembly Speaker is to pay house rent for the two in addition to providing medical insurance. According to the child’s mother, things were okay until the November of last year when Marende suddenly stopped fulfilling his duties.
While still describing how things were, the woman disclosed that Marende was amazed by the news of being a father when she delivered the child at Nairobi Hospital. As such, he promised to take care of the child and as the woman proclaimed, she put her trust on the child’s father on account of his position and age.
In fact, she was moved from her house in Westlands and relocated to a four-bed roomed apartment in the plush areas of Lavington. At that time, Marende paid for the child’s medical policy, upkeep and for a house help. When it was time for her to start schooling, Marende had the child enrolled in an international school within Karen.
The unexpected changes, according to the woman, began sometime after the 2013 General Elections when Marende had her move from Lavington to Kileleshwa and thereafter to Rongai. To add insult to the injury, Marende completely stopped providing for the girl’s upkeep in November last year.
According to The Standard, the woman said,
“I am not gainfully employed and I’m about to be thrown out of the house”.
The woman demanded that the court to order the former speaker to pay up to Sh457, 000 a month pending a court hearing and ruling of the case. Broken into smaller segments, the woman wants; Ksh12, 000 for house help, Ksh15, 000 for water and electricity bills, Ksh60, 000 for clothing, Ksh100, 000 for entertainment, Ksh90, 000 for house rent, and Ksh180, 000 for school fees.
Filed sometime last year, with the hearing scheduled for February 26 2014.
