War Between Shollei and JSC Moves To Twitter and Websites

The Judiciary saga pitting sacked Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei and the Judicial Service Commission has polarised Kenyans on social media.

The general perception on social media is that Mrs Shollei and some members of the JSC are at war and it is the Judiciary that will suffer.

Among those who have waded into the controversy are the digital director in the Office of the President, Mr Dennis Itumbi, who tweeted:

“The truth on Shollei is that when you shine, the forces that be look for something or anything…Yes, she speaks for civil servants.”

There are also fears that women in the Judiciary are being targeted especially after the ousting of former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza.

One tweep @maywahito tweeted: “Any woman in power in Kenya please be careful. Small mistakes will not be taken lightly.” However, others have questioned Mrs Shollei’s motives in choosing to fight in public through the media and wonder if she is “shopping for public sympathy.”

On Daily Nation’s web forum, the mood is much harsher than it is on Twitter.

The web community members are also as divided, with some asking her to go home quietly.

CARRY OWN CROSS

“Gladys we have had enough. You are not bigger than the institution! Go home quietly instead of taking your fight to the street. It says a lot about you!” commented Ozick, a member of the online web forum.

Another user of DN online web forum urged Gladys Shollei to carry her own cross: “If you think that you are right, legally prove them wrong, appeal and let due process kick in. Being quiet and or choosing to do nothing is as bad as accepting that you were guilty without being prosecuted.”
