The crucial debate of Westgate was awaken to Kenyans by the scenes revealed by the trusted Jicho Pevu and Inside Story stared by Mohamed Ali and John Allan Namu of KTN.
Key questions were attempted on being answered. In a nutshell, here is Nairobi Exposed's overview of the explosive investigative that has left many Kenyans angrier.
The attackers struck in at midday hurling grenades and spraying bullets at anything that was breathing. Moments later the neighbourhood guards armed together with some officers try to engage the attackers in fierce fire exchange as they retreat to the Nakumatt supermarket where many shoppers were hiding.
Here they massacre dozens.
RECCE REPRIEVE
After it became clear that the attack at Westgate wasn't a normal robbery, the Israeli-American trained elite GSU,Recce squad were called into the rescue.
Recce are highly trained for the same attacks as that was underway, rescuing hostages and their motto is to cause the biggest damage possible on the enemies and save many within the shortest time possible.
With only a dozen of officers, the Recce squad stormed in engaging the attackers in gunfight,Recce are said to have evacuated nearly all hostages to safety and by 4:00 pm Saturday, nearly all survivors had been released outside, now the Recce squad were pushing to pin the terrorists down. Its said they were just a few minutes away from calling off the operation,to them,Westgate was a walkover mission.
However unknown to them, trouble was brewing the outside.
NO HOSTAGES,KDF CHECKS IN,BLUNDER POINT.
At around 4:00pm the military officers in their hundreds drawn from the nearby Langata Barracks checks in with heavy armoury weapons and without proper informed change of command with subsequent communication, the KDF takes over the operation.
What would then follow is a friendly fire exchange between the army officers who didn't know of the recce and police officers's presence inside the mall.
They treated anything like suspect and opened fire on appearance, during this exchange Recce squad's commander,Munene was shot dead while another officer shot in the leg.
The Recce squad stormed out in protest from a mission they were about to accomplish, thanks to the misinformation and KDF's brutality.
One of the Recce commandos can be heard cursing "wameua mmoja wetu f*ck"
The police are pushed away by the army from the scene and engagement for the supremacy battle ensues between the security officers. As this unnecessary battle continues, the attackers gets enough time to regroup safely.
The police smelling malice quickly move to Hurlingham just a few miles away from Westlands into a house where a back up unit for the CCTV is streamed.
KDF storms in and what they are captured doing is looting, anything goes, banks safes, jewelery stores. The officers are seeing walking out with white paper bags carrying the loot.
All these time, only the CCTVs are watching, the media and police pushed away 300m. The officers engage in heavy looting while up,the terrorists are so much relaxed, even having time to pray and drink water.
It must be noted that by this time there were no hostages, shocking to hear, matter of fact there was no hostages situation, the attackers intentions was to kill as many,at no point does the CCTV show people being held hostage.
Time 10:54pm,the terrorists appears to have dropped their guns down when their leader Al sudani peeps out perhaps to check on the gateways. One of them notices the CCTV camera and tilts it away and that's the last time they were ever seen, where did they go to from there? Unknown.
CHAIN OF LIES
What would follow was series of press conferences updating Kenyans on the situation. Ole Lenku, interior security cabinet sec and army boss Karangi peddled many unconfirmed stories:
• Attackers ranging between 10-15 in number.
• One of the terrorists arrested with Ak-47 and rushed to the hospital.
• Hostages still held.
• Terrorists burning mattresses to subvert the military's attention.
• Three floors brought down to give a pass way.
•British woman involved,Samantha
• President lied to and announced 5 attackers killed,11 suspects arrested.
The truth blocking and concealing lies filled the airwaves,CCTV cameras only captures four but the security bosses seemed to think otherwise.
There was no hostage situation but the bosses made Kenyans believe so. There were nobody but four terrorists and hundreds of army officers. How four men held whole nation captive for four days, puzzling.
The black smoke which Ole Lenku says was black smoke, turns out to rocket strike that brought down three floors. After having looted, the KDF wanted to conceal the mess, bombed and used water to interfere with evidence, amongst them,CCTV control room brought down.
The chilling truth that there were no hostages begs the questions as to why the siege would supposedly last for four days with only four terrorists and hundreds of army officers.
An infighting ensued resulting to the deaths of fellow army officers, embarrassing an understatement.
The president was lied to especially from major Karangi who was the head of operations, duped the president into announcing five deaths which up to now can't be confirmed,11 suspects whom the public haven't seen up to now.
Why would an operation that was supposed to be called off in hours extend for days, did someone intend to accomplish an hidden agenda by prolonging the siege days and if so what is it?
Where did the terrorists go,the last time they are captured on CCTV camera is Saturday night where they were praying and seen to be scheming another plot. God forbid if they escaped but did they? Chances are probably yes and no.
Meanwhile, the police were on a payback mission on the bully KDF having conducted heavy looting and bombed the building including CCTV control room to destroy all evidence that would expose them, unknown to the KDFs,police had captured all the footage on their operations from the CCTV backup unit in the Hurlingham centre. This is what would be used against them later.
CCTV footage distributed to major TV stations expose and reveals the army men looting from the mall. A parliamentary task force committee looking into the matter on Thursday made a statement saying there was no looting by the army officers.
