An attendant at the City Mortuary in Nairobi has been arrested for allegedly stealing from bodies of victims of Westgate Mall terror attack last month, officials said.
The female attendant is accused of stealing a gold watch from President Kenyatta’s nephew who was among those killed in September 21 attack.
Kilimani Division police boss Peter Katam said they are interrogating the woman and her colleagues for stealing from the dead.
Mbugua the president's nephew was among the many who were killed by the terrorists who attacked Westgate mall. As the procedure required, all bodies were to be transferred to the city mortuary before their families came in and transferred them to their funeral homes. and in this case Mbugua and his fiancee were transferred to their funeral home.
This is just an isolated case,the attendants have been known to steal valuables from the bodies brought in,more often from accident or other tragic scenes.
The police vows to crack a whip on the woman to act as an example to the rest for stealing from the Westgate victims and other cases.
