CORD Plotting to Impeach UHURU/RUTO government - MP

Cord is plotting to move a motion in the National Assembly seeking to impeach President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

According to Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament, Mr Gachoki Gitari Cord wants to ensure the two leaders are not in power.

He said a lawmaker who is Cord's emissary would table the motion in Parliament for debate.

Mr Gitari said the MP would base the motion on the fact that the President and his deputy are facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court and consequently were not fit to rule.

"Cord is determined to ensure the motion of impeachment is brought on the floor of the House for discussion. They are not happy because they lost in the March 4 polls to Jubilee," he said.

He was addressing mourners at Mugaya village in his constituency on Wednesday during the funeral of a coffee farmer Mzee Stephen Mwai Mbogo,73.

Mr Gitari said he and his Jubilee colleagues were aware of the opposition's scheme and were ready for anything.

"We very well know what Cord is up to do but we are not scared at all," he said.

Mr Gitari said any attempt to bring a motion to impeach Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto would be strongly opposed.

The MP said that Jubilee has the majority in the House and would unite to shoot down the motion if tabled.

He said Cord's plan would fail, adding that the President and his deputy would lead the country for ten years.

"The motion will be a mission in futility. Cord will lose miserably," he said, amid shouts of toboa (reveal) from the mourners.

He said should the motion be tabled, Jubilee would teach Cord a lesson similar to that of the last General Elections.

The MP said Jubilee Parliamentarians were united more than ever before and would continue defending President Kenyatta's administration.

He told Cord which is led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to give the Jubilee government time to deliver on its pre-election promises.

Mr Gitari said the Head of State was committed to ensure the country registered huge economic growth in all sectors and that Cord should stop criticising and attacking him on trivial issues.

On devolved governments, the MP reiterated that the governors would not be allowed to control the constituency development funds.

He said the governors had been craving to take control of the funds but they would not succeed.

The governors, he said, should spend the Sh210 billion allocated to them and leave the lawmakers to oversee the proper usage of the CDF.

"It is the responsibility of MPS to ensure the funds are well used for the benefits of the people who elected them and governors should keep off," he said.

The MP asked the government to address the plight of coffee and tea farmers whose produce was fetching poor prices in the market.

He said the farmers worked hard and should be assisted to reap maximum benefits from their deliveries.
